Ever thought of how to download music online instantly? Since the invention of iPod and other MP3 players, CD sales have been nose diving and heading down towards the bottom of the pit. This first started in 2001. In fact, by the time we hit 2005, online music download sales have tripled and more than 85% of the sales volumes came from iTunes. However, nowadays, when people like us want to download music online, we are given many options. A large number of them are way cheaper than downloading music at iTunes.

This is a favourite haunt of folks who do not own an iPod to download music online. They offer one of the largest music selection around. The user interface is surprisingly easy to use and perhaps quite a neat one. But it is not the cheapest service to use for your music download needs. It costs you $0.99 per piece of music and this is really the same price as iTunes. Like what I said, this is a good alternative for non-iPod owners.

The wonderful thing about these music stores is that they often carry a huge selection of music pieces, both old and new for you to choose from. Not only that, they do provide music genre of all types that can meet every user’s taste. However, with so many choices today, it is challenging to decide which one is the best place to download music online. Once your search results have been displayed you can then click on a title and listen to a brief clip of the song. If you decide to purchase the song you simply click on the purchase button and the song is instantly downloaded. It’s a fairly straightforward and simple process.

Because different subscription sites tend to cater to different types of music lovers, it is not unusual for people to be members of more than one site. If it’s a subscription site you will want to be certain that it is unique enough to justify the monthly fees.

It is also helpful if the site you are using makes it possible to organize your music for burning to compact disks or downloading to an MP3 player in play lists or libraries.

There are also peer-to-peer file sharing sites. Within the United States, Canada and most of Western Europe, downloading music from these sites is illegal. Recently in the United States a woman was fined $12 million in fines for downloading 24 songs illegally.

There is an exception to the peer-to-peer file sharing. If you already own the particular song or songs that you want to download in another form then you can download the song without worry. So if you are looking for a copy of your favorite song from the 1970’s to put on your MP3 player and you own the vinyl album or cassette version of that song, you are legally allowed to download that song.

The internet makes music more available than ever before in history. Now you can sample music from across the street or across the globe. You can download old favorites and perhaps even find a few new favorites to enrich your life.
